Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with the Botanical Survey of India observed \\\”Van Mahotsav\\\” day today at Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre. The programme was graced by Director cum Member Secretary, S&T, Shri C. D. Mungyak.
Welcome address was delivered by the Curator, A.P Science Centre, Shri Vivek Kumar. A lecture on the importance of our planet was delivered by Dr. Krishna Chawla, Scientist E followed by a Speech by Scientist E, Head of Office, BSI Itanagar, Shri K. Althaf Ahmed Kabeer.
Van Mahotsav, also known as Forest Day, is a celebration that reminds us of the importance of forests and trees in our lives. It\\\’s a time to reflect on our role as caretakers of the environment and to pledge towards conservation efforts.
When viewed through the lens of science and technology, it highlights innovative approaches to conservation and sustainability. Advances in biotechnology have enabled the cultivation of disease-resistant and high-yielding tree varieties, enhancing reforestation efforts. Remote sensing technologies provide valuable data for monitoring forest cover and detecting deforestation, aiding in timely conservation interventions. Furthermore, digital platforms and mobile applications facilitate citizen engagement in tree-planting campaigns and environmental monitoring.
In essence, Van Mahotsav underscores the synergy between science, technology, and environmental stewardship. It encourages us to leverage scientific advancements and technological innovations to protect and replenish our forests, ensuring a harmonious coexistence between nature and human development. Embracing these tools empowers us to make informed decisions and take effective actions towards a sustainable future during Van Mahotsav and beyond.
